Rabbi Ishmael said: Metatron, Prince of the Presence, said to me: The Holy One, blessed be He, has appointed Metatron His servant as Prince and Ruler over all the princes of his kingdoms above and below.

And every angel and every prince who has a word to speak in the presence of the Lord must first speak it to Metatron, and what Metatron commands they do.
